The most recent AI chatbot to have a specialized “Deep Research” capability is Perplexity.

Google’s Gemini received a version of the tool in December, while ChatGPT received its version earlier this month. The Deep Research tool from Perplexity can retrieve data from hundreds of sources “to autonomously generate a thorough report,” just like its competitors. According to a blog post from Perplexity, it is excellent at a variety of expert-level activities in fields including technology, marketing, and finance.

Users can begin by visiting perplexity.ai, choosing Deep Research from the drop-down option in the chat window, and then entering their question. After reviewing sources and honing its research strategy, the AI tool will produce a report in two to four minutes. The created report can be converted into a shareable Perplexity page or downloaded as a PDF or paper.

All logged-in online users will be able to utilize Perplexity’s Deep Research tool for free at launch. It will be available on Mac, iOS, and Android. However, unlimited queries are only available to Perplexity Pro customers. According to Perplexity, others will only be able to deal with a certain amount of replies each day.

In contrast, ChatGPT’s Deep Research tool necessitates a ChatGPT Pro subscription ($200 per month) while Gemini’s Deep Research tool requires a Gemini Advanced subscription that includes a Google One AI plan ($19.99 per month). But according to a recent statement by OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, the business intends to make more sophisticated levels available to free users this year.
